Library lifer named Wellesley Free Library director

Jamie Jurgensen, Wellesley Free LibraryThe Trustees of the Wellesley Free Library have named Jamie Jurgensen, a veteran of library jobs in Rhode Island, Colorado and Minnesota, as library director beginning March 25.Jurgensen was chosen from among 26 applicants from 13 states. The library board said in October it was seeking a “dynamic, visionary leader,” and based on the fact that Jurgensen was a unanimous choice, it would seem the board thinks it got one.

Board Chair Beth Sullivan Woods stated, “The Board was very impressed by Jamie’s rich and diverse library experience as well as her history of accomplishment.”

Jurgensen’s experience spans a spectrum of library service and operations, including at the Children’s Librarian for the East Providence Public Library, Jefferson County Public Library in Colorado, Denver Public Library and Dakota County Library System in Minnesota. Among Jurgensen’s accomplishments with the Minnesota system: She commissioned the newly constructed Robert Trail Library, in Rosemount.

Wellesley Free Library’s previous director left after just 6 months on the job.
