Chinese translator’s name rings a bell for Wellesley resident

Swellesley reader LR wrote in to say she was reading the New York Times magazine recently and noticed that the piece by novelist Su Wei had been translated from Chinese to English by Austin Woerner.  She wrote: “I thought I remembered that name as being one of a super talented Wellesley student (and I think, musician) from years past, so googled him, and indeed… Austin Woerner Homepage”

Woerner was the 2004 Wellesley High valedictorian, and has gone on to study at Yale, Middlebury College, The New School in New York and Tsinghua University in Beijing. Among his accomplishments: translating the novel The Invisible Valley by Su Wei, who teaches Chinese language and literature at Yale.
