We’ve long felt neglected by The Onion, the satirical blog that bills itself as “America’s Finest News Source.” It’s been nearly two decades since Wellesley made it into a headline on that site. But in the world of wry, there’s always competition.
The Barbed Wire, written by a guy who says he’s “just a sarcastic dude from the great state of Texas,” has stepped up to poke fun at Wellesley College, which happens to be in the news lately for its policy on transgender students.
Not one to reach for the low-hanging satirical fruit, our Lone Star state friend strides right past all the rich opportunities for puerile puns and fake righteous indignation he could easily have aimed at gender issues. Instead, he goes for Hillary in his post, Wellesley College Opens Hillary Clinton School for Evasive Communications.
Clinton, a 1969 Wellesley College graduate, has come under fire for using her private e-mail account to conduct government business. Critics of the practice say doing so allowed her to keep a tight grip on official business conducted by e-mail, creating a potential ethical issue.

The piece itself was very funny in the best satirical sense. The published comments that followed, including the author’s, were unfunny, inane and typical of the witless kool aid drinking Clinton haters. The perfect balance was a flattering photo of Ms Clinton and skewering prose. The commentary was so biased that it ruined the impact of the satire for me.
