The groundbreaking PBS documentary series Race: The Power of an Illusion will show in three episodes, one per week, at the Wellesley Free Library starting March 4. The documentary aims to demonstrate how race is both a biological myth and a social invention. Join our moderators, for a light dinner and then view and discuss the history of race and the ‘science’ that justified it. Free and open to the public, it is not necessary to attend all three sessions, but registration is recommended for each. Sponsored by the World of Wellesley and the Friends of the Wellesley Free Libraries.
Episode 1: The Difference Between Us, March 4, 6:30pm – 9pm, takes a look at the concept of race through the lens of biology and DNA
Episode 2, March 11, 6:30 – 9pm, The Story We Tell, shows the evolution of the idea of race through a historical lens.
Episode 3, The House We Live In, March 18, 6:30 – 9pm, shows how institutions and systems have created racial inequality.
