Wellesley High School sophomores Sam Gilman and Eric Fichtel, as part of a leadership development program at the school, will be taking 3rd and 4th graders on local trail walks and organizing related educational games on the first three weekends in May. Participants in the leadership program are required to conduct a project that would benefit the community. (I had the opportunity to sit in on the students’ presentations last year and they did a lot of very beneficial activities, helping out young and old.)
“Sam and I settled on this project because we wanted to do something outside and wanted to work with kids. We felt that this would give an opportunity for parents to take a break from taking care of their kids,” Fichtel says. The program is designed to help kids learn essential outdoor and orienteering skills through activities such as scavenger hunts and games with compasses, he adds.
Sessions will be held on Sunday May 3, Sunday May 10, and Saturday 16 from 2-3:30pm. You can sign up kids for individual or multiple sessions. Please contact Gilman and Fichtel at samandericadventures@gmail.com with questions or if you would like to sign up. There will be a materials fee of $2 per person.
