Happy Sorority International Badge Day, Wellesley. Yesterday was that special day in town when all the sisterhood trots out their badges and wears them on their hearts in nostalgic memory of all things goofy and sacred about life in a college Greek organization.

If you live in town, there’s hardly a doubt that you either :

a) know a Wellesley woman who pledged a sorority in college,

b) are married to a Wellesley woman who pledged a sorority in college, or

c) are a Wellesley woman who pledged a sorority in college.

What we actually do at such a meeting is hardly classified.  We drank wine, we nibbled cheese and chocolate, lit a few ceremonial candles, squealed in delight at seeing each other, OMG’d about this and that, swore to join and actually work on each others’ committees. Pretty standard stuff.

Actual sorority badge inherited from Grandmama. (Not Mrs. Swellesley's badge or grandmama.)

If you were a tri gamma zeta tau, or some such, and this is the first you’ve heard about all this International Badge Day stuff, no worries. Sorority gals are creatures of tradition, so of course there will be more of the same next year.  Just get on the email list and you too can dig out your badge and sister it up on the next big day. You can contact Kristie Gill, one of our fearless leaders, at kcgill@verizon.net

We’re wondering if the manly fraternity men in town have something similar going. Strangely, they didn’t show up and crash our party, which frankly is the type of behavior we would expect from such as them.

Signing off, or as they used to say in my sorority, Love in PKE.

I can’t actually remember what PKE means or how it relates to love.
