Wellesley’s Robbie Johnson says he “lives and breathes Raiders athletics,” and his Wellesley Sports Blitz blog is giving him a new way to share that passion with other fans.
The 2008 Wellesley High School graduate grew up playing CYO basketball and Little League baseball in town, and those involved in or who follow Wellesley sports might know Johnson from his coaching, umpiring or Wellesley Media sports announcing.
“Everything Wellesley sports gets me excited, from the girls hockey runs to the Garden to Wellesley/Needham football to the Williamsport team making a run to the state title 3 years ago…” he says.
Johnson swears he’s getting into the blogosphere for the long run. “I plan on posting pretty much every day starting in the fall as games get going, and combining daily recaps of all the teams along with other sports worthy news around town.”
Johnson says he wrote for The Townsman and school newspaper while in high school.
His differentiator will be giving people a place to go exclusively for Wellesley sports. ” I can also bring some color to the news of the day, along with the play by play.”
Johnson, who works at an after-school program and on the weekends teaches baseball at Frozen Ropes in Natick, launched Wellesley Sports Blitz earlier this month. So far he has mainly recapped the 2014-2015 Wellesley sports year. He’s currently trying to get reader input on Wellesley’s top sports legends.
