That helicopter you might have heard buzzing over Wellesley Saturday AM was here to airlift a 60-year-old Wellesley man hit by a U-Haul truck that rolled down a sloped driveway on Lathrop Road.
Here’s the police statement on the incident:
On Saturday, August 1, 2015 at approximately 9:03 a.m. the Wellesley Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident of 31 Lathrop Road reporting that a family member was struck by a U-haul truck and was injured. Members of the Wellesley Police Department, Wellesley Fire Department and AMR Paramedics responded to the scene. Officers learned that two family members had parked a U-haul truck in their driveway, were unable to engage the emergency brake when they parked the truck in their sloped driveway and began loading the truck. While they were loading the truck it began to roll forward in the driveway. A male party in his 60’s attempted to climb in the open door of the truck to stop the truck from rolling. The male party slipped as he was attempting to climb in the truck and partially fell under the truck as it was rolling forward. The truck rolled across the street and struck a neighbor’s mailbox before coming to rest.
The male party sustained significant injuries to his lower extremities and other injuries. He was transported to a Medflight landing zone in Wellesley where he was then taken by Medflight to Mass General Hospital for treatment.
Members of the Wellesley Police Department’s accident reconstruction team are responding to process the scene.
No further information is available at this time and the name of the victim is not being released at this time.

Earlier this week, a car crashed into a home on Cliff Road, then the driver sped away, only to be nabbed a short time later.
