The marketing efforts of dry cleaning businesses go something like this: We’re the greenest. No we’re the greenest. No, WE’RE the greenest.
And indeed, Wellesley’s newest dry cleaner, dubbed Lapels and located in the Wellesley plaza that includes Whole Foods, assures us that it is the greenest.
“Lapels has pioneered its eco-friendly dry cleaning experience over the past dozen years. Part of that effort includes a partnership agreement with GreenEarth®, the dry cleaning industry’s only non-toxic cleaning alternative for its newer locations like Lapels Dry Cleaning of Wellesley. Using these kinds of solutions and the latest technology in equipment, Lapels is one of the few dry cleaners able to boast that there is no hazardous waste in their process. Their environmentally-friendly cleaning process has no odor and is gentler on clothes, thus lengthening the life of clothes.”
Courtesy Cleaners, the dry cleaning business that had been in that same location since 2012 and sold the location to Lapels to focus on its growing reach in Rhode Island, was super green, too. It even had the slogan “cleaning with green” in its logo. Hercules Cleaners in Linden Square also promotes its Green Dry Cleaning.
So, it would seen Lapels will give the greener-than-thou Whole Foods and mean-and-green Clean Bedroom businesses in that same plaza a real run for the eco-friendly title. The store is open but will have its grand opening on Sept. 26.

Why did Courtesy Cleaners close? They were excellent.
Courtesy sold the Wellesley location to Lapels. According to the business owner: “We appreciate the customers that chose us for their garment care but it was a business decision to expand in RI and focus on our core geographic strengths.”
