Barbara (MacMaster) O’Brien, beloved long-time secretary of Hunnewell High School, passed away on October 21. Her distinctive voice as she picked up the phone with a never hurry, never worry greeting of “Hunnewell School,” reassured all who called that things at the school were well in hand. She was a secretary at Hunnewell during a time when school security meant that part of her job was to make everyone feel welcome as they walked in that building, something she accomplished with her great smile.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Richard T. O’Brien, a devoted and adored mother of four, and the Nona of two. A graduate of Framingham State College, she was an elementary school teacher in Holliston and Wellesley before becoming secretary at Hunnewell School. A longtime member of the Model A Ford Club of New England, Barbara was also known for her devotion to the Red Sox, love of children, and all things Cape Cod.
