Eric Winer, a once prominent Wellesley Little League coach who has been out of the WLL for a couple of years now, has been arrested by the Boston Police Department in relation to “alleged inappropriate and obscene communications with a minor,” according to a memo from the league. The alleged incident is said to have taken place in another community and was brought to WLL’s attention by the Wellesley Police Department.
A Dedham police log from July lists charges, including alleged possession of child pornography, against Winer, a Dedham resident. Winer volunteered as a coach in WLL for more than a decade, led summer travel teams and served as a high ranking league official.
The WLL Board stated in its memo that: “Wellesley Little League is committed to providing a safe environment for all children who participate. While we are not aware of any allegations of similarly inappropriate behavior by Mr. Winer during the time he was involved with our organization, in accordance with our SafeKids Program, we believe that it is our obligation to notify league parents and volunteers of this situation. If you have any questions regarding Wellesley Little League, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.”
