From Redeemer Community Church:
This Sunday, Oct. 25, from 4-6pm you are invited to join the Redeemer Community Church (RCC) , right on the Wellesley-Needham line, for a kit-building event that will put willing hands and caring hearts to good use.
People of all ages are welcome to come and pack up kits of school supplies and comfort necessities into individual backpacks that will be distributed, by World Vision into the hands of refugee children in desperate need.
The project is simple –all the materials are set up assembly-line style, ready to be packed. Anyone packing a kit also has the opportunity to write apersonal note of encouragement and caring, to be included in the kit. Children can draw pictures or write a note.
Families can pack one kit together –RCC is making the first kit free to guests–or, family members can each pack a kit (as long as supplies last). Donations to cover the cost of additional kits are very helpful, but not expected. When the work is done, there will be pizza and drinks.
With several disaster relief professionals in its congregation, RCC has been able to professionally assess the most effective and efficient ways to support the 12 million refugees crowding into Europe and the rest of the E.U.
Another program that the church is supporting is the ‘winterization drive’ led by World Vision to rapidly clothe and equip the refugee population with coats, hats, gloves and everything else that the change of season requires. Guests are welcome to add to the contributions being made by the RCC families.
Spurring along donations to World Vision for ‘winterization’ is a $250,000 donation pledged to ‘match’ Boston donations given to World Vision for Syrian refugee relief. Redeemer Community Church and the Promise Pack event can be found in the Fellowship Hall of the Needham Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Great Plain Avenue and Central Avenue. Parking is at the Newman School, located on Central Avenue.
