The contemporary quartet ETHEL is coming to Babson College’s Carling-Sorenson Theatre on Oct. 23 at 8pm to present its Documerica show. The pitch:
Documerica is a landmark visual and musical event that explores Americans’ connection to their environment, performed by the progressive contemporary quartet ETHEL. Visual images include more than 3,000 vintage photographs from the National Archive, images of strip mining, political protest, car culture, pollution, unemployment, natural beauty, and urban decline. ETHEL’s own original music and a commissioned score incorporate a range of American styles, genres and techniques — blues, jazz, Native American traditional, bluegrass, and old-time string band — filtered through a distinctly 21st-century lens.
