Fox25’s TV special on the Wellesley-Needham football rivalry, the oldest between public high schools, can be seen below via YouTube. The program includes excellent behind-the-scenes video of practices n the run-up to Football at Fenway on Thanksgiving Day, lots of classic coach speak, and a few history lessons.
Wellesley High’s Mary Anne McDonald (a 4th generation Wellesley-ite) and Jamie Chisum, Superintendent David Lussier, current players like Will Cramer and former ones like Terry Sullivan, Red Sox President and Wellesley resident Sam Kennedy, and other local celebrities are featured in the mini-reality show/documentary.
Oh, and that includes WHS senior Rudy Pikulik, who as Wellesley High’s reigning Pep Rally pie eating champ, deserves at shot at showing his stuff off at Fenway some day too.
Notable points in the video:
*A Needham guy claiming people from that town stick around, whereas Wellesley residents are more likely to move out of town
*Our town hall is referred to as having “one of the most iconic town halls in America.”
*You might wanna skip over that 2010 Needham OT win over Wellesley at the 3:47 mark of the video…
*A few Needham chuckleheads breaking a bench
Needham, by the way, has closed the gap to one game in the schools’ historical head-to-head football record to 60-59-9. You might want to forego the end of the video if you can’t bear to re-watch the outcome at Fenway…
