When we saw the closed for renovations sign last June in the window of Nick’s Pizza House, we had our suspicions about the place ever opening again. Call us jaded, but we’ve seen the term used as code for “never opening again under this name” more than a few times in town.
Sure enough, Nick’s is out, and Pizza Peddler is in at 263 Washington St. New owner Petro Belezos has gutted the space, put in all new plumbing and electrical work, and replaced every piece of equipment down to the last teaspoon. He hopes to open as soon as Monday, 12/21.
It’s just a matter of getting signed off by the town on one last permit before he opens his doors to all comers seeking hand-thrown Neopolitan-style pizza ($10.99 for a 16″ pie); salads; fresh, never frozen, burgers; Boar’s Head meat sandwiches; house-made meatballs, chicken and veal cutlets; chicken salad; spinach and artichoke rangoons; and grilled veggie wraps. He’s also bringing his Natick location’s #1 best seller, the buffalo chicken wrap, across the border to see if Wellesley palates are as sophisticated as those next door.
Pizza Peddler has seating for eight, and Belezos says he expects to do a brisk take-out business and will also deliver anywhere in Wellesley.
We’ve documented the historic event on our Where to Eat in Wellesley page, where you can also find plenty of other eateries to tide you over until Pizza Peddler opens.
