Arlington-based Magician Méliès (a.k.a. John Sanbonmatsu) will be taping a show for Wellesley Public Media’s Gil Stubbs’ World of Magic on March 2 at the Wellesley Community Center, and the public is invited to attend. It starts at 4pm and lets out a bit after 5pm.
Sanbonmatsu, who took his stage name from the late-19th century French illusionist and pioneer of early cinema Georges Méliès, specializes in living room magic for adults and older children. Last year, he says, he helped a client produce an engagement ring for his fiancée out of fire and ice. In March, he is scheduled to be the featured magician at the Downton Abbey gala at WGBH in Boston.
When not performing as a magician, Sanbonmatsu teaches philosophy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he is a tenured professor.
