Wellesley Little League and Wellesley High alum Nate Freiman, who went on to star as a baseball player at Duke and later made the major leagues with the Oakland A’s, has been traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Washington Nationals.
Earlier in March, the Braves had sent the right-handed first baseman to their minor league camp following a rough start to spring training. The A’s had released Freiman in December following a 2015 season during which Freiman played in the minors.
The Braves over the weekend traded the 6-foot 7-inch Freiman to the Nats for Tyler Moore, an infielder/outfielder who played in 277 games for Washington over the past few years. Ryan Zimmerman and Clint Robinson, at the very least, are ahead of 29-year-old Freiman on the Nats’ depth chart. Too bad he didn’t get picked up by an American League team that might have found space for Freiman at DH.
