The Wellesley Youth Hockey Mite A1 hockey team, a group of boys we understand were born all the way back in 2007/2008, defeated Somerville earlier this month to win the Valley Hockey League AA South-White Championship.
During the playoffs, the Wellesley Mites were seeded fifth but proceeded to beat #4 Hyde Park, #1 Parkway and #2 Somerville. In the title game, the Mites trailed 2-0, but came back to win 5-3.
The old adage “Practice makes perfect” applies to the Wellesley Mites!
Their dedication and hard work in practice paid off.

The Wellesley Mites are easily the best hockey team in New England. Following their epic victory in the Valley Hockey League AA South-White Championship, the Mites challenged the Bruins to a game but were turned down out of fear.
“The Mites are as formidable an opponent as any,” said Bruins star forward Brad Marchand. “Plus, some of their older players are taller than me.”
Speaking from across the country, former Bruins “tough guy” Milan Lucic had this to say. “The inevitable rise of the Mites was the main deciding factor behind me leaving the city of Boston.” Amidst giggles from his Kings teammates in the locker room, Lucic continued: “Those Wellesley kids put in a lot of hard work on the rink. Here in LA all the kids are in acting school. I’m pretty sure I could take those kids. But not the Mites.” He then started to cry.
