For those of you begging for a fresh theatre production, something besides say Annie or Annie or Annie, check out the Wellesley High School Drama Society’s presentation of an original play called Helter Shelter that debuts Wednesday, March 9 at 4:30pm at the school.
Additional shows follow at Wellesley High on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30pm and Saturday, March 12 at 5:00pm. The students then take their production on the road to the Playwright’s Platform in Boston on April 1 and 2.
The play’s plot centers on a group of quirky strangers trapped in a government shelter during the storm of the century.
According to Parents of Performing Students, student directors Meaghan Shinnick, Sam Weinberg and Chris Mykrantz have helped freshman and sophomore students improvise scenes to create a second, short original script that will be performed in advance of Helter Shelter on March 9 and 10 at Wellesley High.
Tickets for Helter Shelter will be available at the door: $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Please note that show content is suitable for mature audiences.
Also this coming Saturday, Wellesley High will host the Massachusetts Collaborative Theater Festival, with visiting troupes performing at 10am, 11am, 1:45pm and 4pm, capped off with the 5pm Helter Shelter show.
