The 18th annual Footnotes concert will take place on Thursday, April 14 at 7 pm in the Katherine L. Babson Jr. auditorium at Wellesley High School. The dances, involving collaboration with other schools and colleges, will feature both the high school and middle school’s Moving Companies, as well as guest performers from Dana Hall Dance, the Cambridge School of Weston, Dean College, and Rhode Island College.
Janet Sozio, Director of the WHS Moving Company and Footnotes, says that one of the important characteristics of this concert is the absence of a unifying theme among the various performances, which fosters inclusivity and diversity in the showcased dance styles. She hopes instead that the audience will gain exposure to the many forms of dance that exist, as well as the importance of partnership within this particular musical art.
“My vision is one of audience education about various dance styles and about collaboration. It is just as important for the dancers to see what else is happening in the dance world around them as well as to create dances together,” said Sozio, who is also the director of the high school Moving Company.
