We saw this sign today in the window of Lux Bond & Green, the high-end jewelry retailer located at 60 Central St. They can drip you in diamonds, offer you a watch that tells time to the nearest nanosecond, and help you find the perfect hostess gift, but there’s one thing Lux Bond & Green can’t do right now — accept your phone calls.
Yup, the Verizon strike, now in its fifth week, has hit Wellesley, and we’re wondering if other businesses or even homes are having to do without essential communication. Around 40,000 striking Verizon workers are seeking wage increases and better benefits and working conditions.
In the face of all this, Lux Bond & Green is keeping calm and carrying on, which means the store is open for business as usual. If you want to contact them, they ask that you do so by email at wellesley@lbgreen.com

With the overall lack of media attention to the strike, when there are any reports on it we find them to be mostly incorrect.
Verizon workers are not looking for higher wages and better benefits, we a trying to keep our benefits from being gutted, keep verizon from shipping good middle class jobs overseas and keep verizon from causing undo harm and stress to workers and their families by forcing out of town assignments for months at a time.
If you were to do some research and talk to the Unions and their members, your report would be true to fact and not the old “they are on strike so they must just want more money” that an eighth grader wrote quickly during study hall.

I think these Stikers are just too Damm spoiled. I worked for a contractor as a cable technician that work for a Cable company and we don’t get a Damm thing. We get paid piece work, benefits sucks which we pay 200 a week for a family on insurance , we don’t get free cable or not even a discount on cable, we drive our own trucks paying our own gas ,and to be honest I can’t speak for all inhouse workers but I see the type of work they do out in the field and it’s sad for an hourly worker to have such a crappy work and treats customers like crap. Where u have a contractor worker would work harder and treats the customers the same or better and not get all the good stuff that an inhouse person would get. I mean , I hope the Strikers get what they want but I think their asking for too much , these Strikers noticed that Verizon is making big profits over the years then all of a sudden their asking for more shit added on to their contract. Bunch of spoiled as people. Wow!

Well your a prime example of why workers should unionize

So you have an awful job, everyone should have an awful job? These workers are basically asking for the status quo, from a company that has made billions in profits. That’s billions with a B. Your premise that Contract workers treat customers better has no factual basis other than some personal experience. I have dealt with union Verizon workers multiple times in the last 5 years and have nothing but great experience with the. I have not dealt with Cable contractors at all, so no comment.
