Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend is upon us, and the schedule is jam-packed with fun. Click here for all the details about the Hunnewell Fun Fair, parade, fireworks, Open Houses at the police and fire stations, and much, much more.
Every year the Wellesley Celebrations Committee dishes out coveted honors to Wellesley’s luminaries, who can be seen at the parade, waving to the crowd, and generally making themselves visible at many of the other events over the weekend. We think they should wear sashes or tiaras for the entire weekend so we can easily pick them out of the crowd and make a fuss over them. Here’s the list of this year’s honorees:
2016 48th ANNUAL VETERANS’ PARADE HONOREES

GORDON MARTIN –Grand Marshal for his 37 years of service to the Town of Wellesley, most recently as the Superintendent of the Recycling and Disposal facility.
CHIEF TERRENCE M. CUNNINGHAM—Distinguished Service Award at present serving a one year term as the President of the International Chief of Police Chiefs Association (IACP).
STANLEY W. SPEAR, JR—Co-Chief of Staff—Wellesley’s Veteran Service Officer serving Wellesley, Weston, Wayland and Needham.
LINDSAY ELLMS—Co-Chief of Staff—Longtime veteran activist and WWII veteran.
SARA D. PRESTON –Community Service Award—retiring from serving on the Planning Board.
PATRICIA (PATTI) A. QUIGLEY—Community Service Award retiring from serving on the School Committee, also a Town Meeting Member.
HENRY N. PLATT, III—Dedicated Service Award –retiring from Wellesley School System after 28 years, most recently as the Middle School Band instructor.
DONNA CHAFF–Dedicated Service Award—retiring from Wellesley Public Schools as a long time elementary school Music teacher.
