A bit of Provence has returned to Wellesley. Once again, our own Community Center at 219 Washington St. has allowed a room on its bottom floor to become a warehouse for Amelie Michel, which sells high-quality French linens at discount prices. Amelie has table runners, table cloths, napkins, decorative pillows, and even close-out bins so that you can really channel your inner frugal Gallic shopper.
There’s a good mix of Provencal colors and themes (olives, bright colors), but the owners have also ushered in a nice selection of neutrals. According to co-owner Michael Newburg, “We go on buying tours to the mills in France. We go to six or seven mills, and everything we sell is imported from France. Some of our products we buy already finished, but we also buy bolts of fabric, which we have finished off to our specifications in a Fall River factory. Custom orders are encouraged, and are ready and delivered to the customer within a couple of weeks.”
If you take a peek inside, you’ll see that French style and Community Center practicality can indeed coexist. Long tables and utilitarian plastic bins display beautiful fabrics, all at 20% – 50% off retail. Shoppers can find napkins for as little as $4 on up to 12-foot tablecloths for $250. There are also fancy guest soaps, decorative pillows, dishcloths, placemats and more. The pop-up is open 10am – 5pm every day through Saturday, June 25.
