Pictures of big trucks doing cool things at Wellesley Track & Field project site

June 26, 2016 by admin Leave a Comment

This from the Department of Public Works:

Work continues on the track and field project at Wellesley High School. Heimlich Landscaping & Construction Corporation continues with the site demo. The topsoil from the football field is currently being screened by a trommel in order to separate the topsoil from stones, sod clumps, broken pavement and other large objects. Here are some pictures (all photo credits to DPW) of big trucks doing cool things at the site:

The trommel’s main function is to screen and separate the soil, gravel, mulch, stones, sand and other unwarranted debris or large objects into separate piles. The trommel contains a large rotating screen drum and two conveyor belts. The screened drum separates the material as it rotates. One conveyor belt transfers the acceptable material to one end and the other conveyor belt transfers the unacceptable material (waste) to the other end. The material pile on the right includes sod clumps, stones, broken pavements and other debris which are the waste material. The material pile on the left is the screened topsoil which is the acceptable material that can be reuse for lawns. The screened topsoil is being shipped to the Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway yard for storage and will be used on a variety of future projects. The large material pile behind the trommel is unscreened topsoil.

The other end of the trommel disposes the sod clumps, stones and etc. (in foreground). This is waste material and will be disposed off the site to a landfill.
