Wellesley Free Library this summer will install a solar-powered bench near the Children’s patio that will enable visitors to hang outside and charge their laptops, smartphones and other gadgets.
The Soofa bench, acquired via a partnership with the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant, lets you plug in devices via two USB ports. The library and WMLP are playing up the sustainability angle of this addition.
Soofa benches, designed by engineers from Harvard and MIT, began popping up in Boston in 2014 and have spread to other states from there.
