Wellesley Fuller Brook Park work: Spring update

June 8, 2016 by Deborah Brown Leave a Comment

This from the Wellesley Department of Public Works Engineering Division regarding recent progress on the Fuller Brook Park Preservation Project (all photo credits to DPW):

Recently, work has been concentrated on path construction. At the State St. parking lot, a new path connection adjacent to the curb on the north side of the lot provides a connection that eliminates the need to walk into the lot and to the rear of the cars. This safety improvement was added to the project at the suggestion of the public and approved by the Fuller Brook Park Committee, which advises DPW on the project. At the west of the pond, path restoration was continued and a new granite bench was installed.

Other recent construction includes the installation of wood guardrail on Wellesley Ave. and the installation of new road drainage improvements and granite curbing at Vane St. The drainage will help clean run-off water before entering the brook, and the curbing will help contain run-off  and prevent damage from snow plows at the end of the street. Path layout and excavation from Brook St. to Cottage St., and seeding of several park areas, including the wet meadow location between Wellesley Ave. and Brook St. are examples of much of the recent work.

Brandon Schmitt, Director of the Wellesley Natural Resources Commission, took time out of his day to give the women of the Wellesley Gardeners' Guild a tour and informational talk about the work on the Brook Path. Thanks for a great tour, Brandon. Every elementary school classroom in town should go on this this tour as part of the science curriculum. It really is fascinating.
