The Park Department‘s Waldemar Caban was recently spotted by a Swellesley reader replacing a pump for the system that uses storm water to irrigate fields in Wellesley along the Cochituate Aqueduct.
You need to have a confined space certification and check oxygen levels before descending into holes like this.
.
The Cochituate Aqueduct, which is part of Wellesley’s trail system, was built in the mid-1800s to bring water to Boston, and decommissioned in the 1950s (more history here).
Mike says
Is that hole leading to the aqueduct?
bbrown says
Not entirely sure (hoping maybe someone from DPW might read this and answer?)
