Update on recent Fuller Brook Park work in Wellesley

This from the Wellesley Department of Public Works Engineering Division regarding recent progress on the Fuller Brook Park Preservation Project (all photo credits to DPW):

The warm dry spring has permitted a very productive work environment for Fuller Brook Park; although some rain would certainly help the grass and plants. The photo below shows the grasses and herbaceous flowering plants at the wet meadow area between Wellesley Ave. and Brook Street getting off to a good start. The seeding includes 25 different species of plants that will create a diverse habitat attractive to insects, birds, and small mammals. As the plants become established, they’ll take up water from the soil and there will be less standing water than we saw this spring. All photo credits to DPW.

Fuller Brook Park project
Much of the work during the late spring was concentrated on path construction extending from the boardwalk at the wet meadow to Cottage Street. This is a total distance of over 3000 feet, well over ½ mile. The total length of new path built on the project now stands at approximately 10,000 feet or over 1.8 miles. The path surface installed to date has held up well through a winter and heavy wear. We are still concerned about wear and tear on path edges and trying to get a healthy establishment of grass along the path.
