Wellesley Unified Plan Steering Committee seeks members

Public Application Period Open for Representatives to Unified Plan Steering Committee

On behalf of the Board of Selectmen and Planning Board, the Unified Plan Working Group is excited to announce the opening of an application period for members of the public to express their interest in serving on the Unified Plan Steering Committee.

The Unified Plan, a combined long-range Strategic and Comprehensive/Master Plan for the Town of Wellesley, is intended to serve as the Town’s principal planning document, establishing a vision for the future and setting priorities, goals, and implementation strategies needed to make that vision a reality. The Unified Plan will explore conditions and develop policies related to the physical development of the Town, the needs of the Town’s current and future residents, the Town’s finances, and the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.

A key component in the development of the Unified Plan will be the stewardship by a Steering Committee. This committee will be comprised of representatives of approximately 25 Town boards/committees, along with 13 to 18 representatives of Town Meeting and various community interests, such as residents, commercial property and business owners, students, non-profits, and educational and religious/faith-based organizations.

Applications for participating on the Steering Committee can be obtained by visiting  http://goo.gl/forms/0zYK4OWq5v7IXANE2. Completed applications must be submitted by August 15, 2016. Following the submittal deadline, applications will be reviewed by the board representatives to the Steering Committee who will make final appointments.

Those interested in learning more about the Unified Plan and the Steering Committee may visit http://www.wellesleyma.gov/up for additional information, including the Charge to the UP Steering Committee. The full Steering Committee is expected to meet approximately bi-monthly (every two months) between September 2016 and the 2018 Annual Town Meeting (March/April 2018); members will likely serve on smaller subject-specific working groups and will be expected to attend key public forums held throughout the process.

Thank you for your interest in the Unified Plan Steering Committee. Should you have questions or need additional information, please email UP@wellesleyma.gov
