The annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk takes place on Sunday, Sept. 25, with over 8,900 participants expected to walk one of four routes:
- Marathon Walk (26.2 miles) from Hopkinton
- Half Marathon Walk (13.1 miles) from Wellesley
- 10K Walk (6.2 miles) from Newton (new in 2016)
- 5K Walk (3.1 miles) from Dana-Farber
- Can’t make it on Walk day? Register as a Virtual Walker!
The event, run with the help of over 1,000 volunteers, is designed to raise big bucks in the fight against cancer. Last year walkers raised some $8.2M for the Jimmy Fund and can pride themselves as raising the most money of any single-day walk in the nation. The $300 minimum that adults raise ($100 minimum for ages 12 and under) is expected this year to add up to more than $7.5 million dollars to combine with the nearly $100 million dollars already raised for the fight against cancer since 1989.
Best of luck to the walkers as they troupe through Wellesley, and other places, and to the volunteers and staff who make it all run smoothly. Register here to join in the action as a walker or to volunteer Saturday, September 24 at early check-in at Wellesley High School and throughout the day on Sunday, September 25 at various locations along the Boston Marathon course.
