Wellesley photographer up for Boston Music Award

Wellesley’s Rich Gastwirt has one of those dream jobs: He shoots photos at about 300 concerts a year, and as you can see at his Facebook page, he’s really good. And that’s why he is one of 6 nominees for the Boston Music Awards’ Best Live Music Photographer, and you can vote for him here if you enjoy his work.

We’re not talking about the crummy cellphone pics people like me feel compelled to take, like at the recent Car Seat Headrest show, shown here:

Gastwirt frequently works at indie folk concerts, and notes really enjoying the chance to shoot Christopher Paul Stelling, a friend who recently opened for Ben Harper. He also raves about the Festival at the Farm that took place in Canton over the summer. Gastwirt says he hasn’t resorted to taking any cellphone photos…

Another Boston Music Awards nominee with Wellesley ties is the band Air Traffic Controller, including for Best Song (“On the Wire”) and Video of the Year (“The House” — a very spirited video). Wellesley High music teacher Steve Scott is a member of the band.
