Next week is going to be a big one for the Wellesley sports community: An opening ceremony for the field is slated for Friday, Oct. 22 and the findings from the first formal review of the town’s Athletic Department in 10 years are expected to be shared at the School Committee meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
Asst. Superintendent Judy Belliveau and WHS Principal Jamie Chisum are expected to reveal findings of the Athletic Department Review that began in December and sought input from parents, boosters and students in meetings and through a survey. The review covers both middle school and high school sports programs, including program management, finances and fees (mysteries of how gold form funds are divvied up?), student participation, facilities, booster support and what comparable communities do.
The review process was not without critics, including those who had hoped for non-daytime meetings. Some also questioned timing of the survey, which was issued on the last Friday of the school year, and then again mid-summer.
