Wellesley, because it’s situated between miles 12 and 16 of the Boston Marathon course, gets a handful of invitational entries for the April 2017 race that it doles out to charities that in turn have runners raise a boatload of money for them in exchange for the racing bibs.
In this race before the race, charities can now apply to the Wellesley Board of Selectmen get those invitational entries through the town, with charities benefiting Wellesley residents and programs given preference. Charities interested in getting entries should complete this application and send it in by Nov. 23 (charities should note how many runners they think they can get by Dec. 31).
Runners interested in raising funds ($4,000!) for a charity to secure a big are encouraged to get charities of their choice to fill out an application and are also invited to submit their names to the Selectmen’s office to keep apprised of charities that do get numbers.
