Charlie Brown Tree makes annual appearance at Lake Waban

Every year around this time, a Charlie Brown Tree makes an appearance on the path that rings Lake Waban, a popular walking spot in town for exercisers, dog walkers, and communers with nature. This year, you can find the scraggly but sincere tree nearby the Woodland Garden art installation. Last time I checked a couple of days ago, the tree was decked with the first of what will surely be many ornaments:

Mr. Snowman is obviously a purchased ornament, but should you be inspired to add to the Charlie Brown Tree, don’t feel like you have to rush out and shop. Over the years typical ornaments have included orange slices, artfully crafted sticks and greens, the classic peanut butter and birdseed covered pinecones for Wellesley’s bird friends, and more.

If you’ve found the Woodland Garden art installation, you’re very near the Charlie Brown Tree. In case you’re wondering, the early 1990s work, a collaboration between sculptor Michael Singer and architect Michael McKinnell,  “integrates sculptural and architectural elements…and invites us to reflect on the themes of threshold, boundary, and shelter as well as the interaction between the natural environment and the public art constructed within it,” according to the plaque.
