The Wellesley Board of Selectmen has awarded the following organizations invitational entries for the 2017 Boston Marathon. Like other communities along the marathon route, Wellesley gets a bunch of entries to dole out to charities, which in turn solicit runners to use those numbers. (It also typically reserves a handful of entries to dish out to public servants, including the police.)
The catch for runners, who may or may not be fast enough to meet the Boston Marathon’s tough qualifying standards, is that they need to raise a small fortune ($4,000) to get one of these invitational bids. They must first apply with the various charities to get a shot, and you’ll be seeing communications from those organizations in the weeks to come.
