Roche Bros. in Wellesley’s Linden Square today began selling exclusive Wellesley-themed reusable bags for $4 while supplies last. The machine-washable canvas bags, designed by a couple of Wellesley High School students, will help usher out plastic carryout bags for local businesses.
Residents approved the plastic bag ban earlier this year and it goes into effect on Jan. 25 for big stores and April 12 for small ones.
The WHS Evolutions program students who created the winning design, Allison MacDougall and Caroline Green, are receiving a $1,000 grant from Roche Bros. and Linden Square Wellesley that will be presented at the Linden Square tree lighting ceremony this Thursday, Dec. 8. That money will go back to the community as the students are donating $500 to the Wellesley Food Pantry and $500 to Stray Pets in Need (SPIN).
