Last year’s annual town election was dominated by the question over whether to bring on a Town Manager, with little action on the town-wide office front. This time around, there’s plenty of competition for board, committee and commission seats in March 7 election.
Tuesday was deadline day for candidates to get their papers certified by the town clerk, and as of today, here’s what we’re looking at for royal battles:
*Five candidates — Melissa Martin, Ron Alexander, Jennifer Jordahl, Matthew Kelley and Eli Burstein — are vying for two vacant seats on the School Committee amidst a backdrop of Hardy/Hunnewell/Upham plan resolution. Terms are for three years.
*Two candidates — James Roberti and Thomas Macdonald — for one one-year Planning Board term
*Three candidates — Regina LaRocque, Joan Gaughan and Lise Olney — for two three-year Natural Resources Commission terms
*Two candidates — Andrew Wrobel and John Thompson, Jr. — for one three-year term on Recreation Commission
*Two candidates — Shepard Cohen and Robert Anthony — for one Board of Health three-year term
Only two candidates — Tom Ulfelder and Elizabeth Sullivan Woods — are running for two vacant seats on the Board of Selectmen (Barbara Searle’s and David Murphy’s terms expire in March).
Thomas Frisardi is the only person brave enough to throw his hat into the ring for Moderator, a position held in recent years by Peg Metzger.
