A Swellesley reader recently shared a photo with us of graffiti messing with the walls of the Weston Road/Rte.9 bridge in the Fells area, asking “For the taxes we pay, that should have been taken down IMMEDIATELY.” (It’s been up for at least a few weeks now.)
While we’ve gotten used to the graffiti in certain places in town (back of buildings at Wellesley Square train station, Bacon Street bridge, Waban Arches), this indeed did strike us as being a fresh canvas.
So we checked in with Wellesley Police to see if perhaps they would be on the case, and indeed WPD officers on night shifts have been making extra checks of areas such as this that are susceptible to graffiti and tagging. As for cleaning up the Weston Road bridge underpass, WPD directed us to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, since the bridge is state property. We filled out an online form on the DoT website to inquire about whether this might be taken care of…

Or maybe the rest of the “canvas” could just be opened up to some of the WHS gold key art winners!.
Wellesley Square train station is truly nasty.
When not taken care of this “art” invites more: Back of former bowling alley deteriorating badly as”art” gets bigger & bolder each year; broken glass.
Who has responsibility here?
Not very nice welcome to our town or place for commuters to wait.
