Wellesley High School’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams each downed Natick on Friday — the girls much more easily than the boys — and both teams helped to raise funds to fight cancer on Think Beyond Pink night.
A big crowd, many donning pink and some wearing capes, rallied around Wellesley Wonder Woman Carol Chaoui to help the cancer-fighting advocate raise funds for her umpteenth Boston Marathon run.
In the first game, the boys edged Natick 67-66 in double overtime, overcoming a crazy 3-pointer by Natick’s Andrew Pereira that banked in with under 8 seconds to go in the second overtime period to tie the game at 66. The Natick player actually got fouled on the shot and had a chance to put his team ahead, but missed his free throw. Raiders rebounding machine Max Guiffre a few seconds later got fouled and broke the tie after he made a free throw.

The Wellesley girls outplayed Natick all night but didn’t pull away until the second half when their shooting heated up for a 47-31 win. On a big night for the Guiffre family, Brooke Guiffre led the Raiders in scoring with 12 points. The Raiders bounced back nicely from their only loss of the season and are now 9-1.
