On Friday, January 20, Donald J. Trump officially became the 45th president of the United States, and nobody kept quiet about it. Protesters marched, supporters celebrated, and Wellesley residents placed themselves smack in the middle of the fray. A few days before the big event I started reaching out to Wellesley residents, asking them to send me photos of their adventures, both in Boston and Washington, DC, and for general comments. I got an earful and an eyeful.
Protesters, on their way to the Women’s March in Boston and Washington, sent emails that were best described as letters of intent/manifestos for how they were going to live their lives for the next four years — not lying down. Emails from Trump supporters were breezy and jubilant. They would have loved to chat more, but they were on their way to volunteer at the Lincoln Memorial, they had to ready themselves for the Inauguration, plus they had balls to attend, bye-eee.
