Sure, social media is turning many kids into performers practically straight out of the cradle, but a new Youth Media Training program being offered in Wellesley will aim to teach some of the finer points of the craft.

Lau Lapides Co., of Wellesley is holding a free open house at the Wellesley Community Center (219 Washington St.) from 9am-noon on Saturday, Jan. 28. The interactive program is designed for young people ages 7-18 who are interested in improvisational acting, on camera acting, modeling for print and fashion, voice overs for animation and commercials (which Lapides says is a national market), public speaking/media presentation, media editing/producing, and broadcasting basics. Professional coaches will be on hand to act as guides, and young first-timers are welcome to give new skills a try.

“Don’t be surprised to see such media luminaries as Candy O’Terry, formerly of Magic 106.7, Dan Lothian, former White House Correspondent for CNN, and Ann Baker, instructor and casting associate from Boston Casting,” Lapides says.

If you’re interested in signing up your children for classes, which run from Feb. 18-March 11, the cost is $356 for four weeks if you register by Monday, Jan. 30 by 5pm. Otherwise, the cost is $400.

Classes take place in the Garden Room of the Wellesley Community Center
