The obstacle course that is Wellesley’s streets will soon have company in the form of Action Athletics, a gym dedicated to training everyone from kids to adults by running them through a fitness gauntlet consisting of climbing walls, ladders, nets and things to swing from.
The idea is to make working out at a gym less boring. Action Athletics has been the training home of numerous American Ninja Warrior competitors.
Action Athletics, now in Newton, will have its grand opening on June 11 at the space vacated by City Sports in 2015 at 475 Washington St., in Wellesley.
We’d reached out to the realtor and Action Athletics earlier in the week to see what might be up. Action got all stealthy and Ninja-y on us, but then formally announced its plans on Friday. We never did hear back from the realtor, who is no doubt celebrating the arrival of a new occupant.

Please, please let this happen.
Alternatively, I would also love to see a traditional pub-type use (I have begged the folks at O’Hara’s in Newton Highlands to consider another outpost here – they said they were working on something else at the moment, but would take a look after that). The thought of having a decent pint of Guinness and a good meal (shepherd’s pie!) for around $20 is really appealing. A fireplace would be a bonus. Given the lines at the Local, there is clearly demand in town in this segment of the market.
