MassBay Community College has announced that MassBay alum and Boston Police Officer Jean JeanLouis will be the keynote speaker for the school’s 55th commencement on Thursday, May 18 at the Wellesley Hills campus.
JeanLouis immigrated to Boston from Haiti with his family when he was 3 years old and attended Boston Public Schools. He dreamed of becoming a Boston Police Officer and giving back to the community he calls home. JeanLouis graduated MassBay in 2007 with an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice before achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He has worked for the Boston Police Department since 2007 and has been Boston Police Officer in the Youth Violence Strike Force since 2012. In addition, in May 2014 JeanLouis was the recipient of the National Association of Police Organizations Top Cops Award in a White House ceremony with President Barack Obama, honoring his heroism during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the regional manhunt and capture of the suspects. He is currently working towards his Master of Science in Criminal Justice Leadership at Northeastern University and is set to graduate this July as a member of the Order of the Shield National Honor Society.
In addition to being the 2017 commencement speaker, JeanLouis will be given a Distinguished Service Award by MassBay.
