Michael LaCava, currently principal of an elementary school in Chelmsford, has been named as the new K-12 Director of Performing arts for the Wellesley Public Schools. Wellesley’s current director announced her resignation in March, effective this June.
LaCava has worked in education and school administration in Massachusetts since 1992, starting as a music and band director in Gardner, Mass. He’s been with the Chelmsford school system since 20o5, initially as fine and performing arts coordinator.
Outside of his main job, LaCava has been president of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, serves as an adjudicator and clinician in much of New England, and can be seen as a guest conductor for state and local festivals.
