Wellesley A Better Chance (ABC) will be holding its annual fundraising event on Friday, May 12 (6:30pm-11pm), with the theme “Reach for the Stars.” Wellesley ABC’s core mission is providing academically talented and promising young women of color from underserved communities A Better Chance through enrollment at Wellesley High School and participation in a residential program.
According to Co-President and Co-Chair of the event, Sunny Allen, Wellesley ABC, “We want to celebrate all that the program does and has done for almost 45 years, to give young women of color the educational springboard to “Reach for the Stars” and pursue their educational and career goals with all the support we can give.”
This year’s Inaugural Community Champion Award will be presented to portrait photographer Roger Pelissier. Since 2008, he has been photographing ABC’s scholars for use in the organization’s annual appeal and website. More importantly these portraits don the halls of the ABC house and make it feel like home. These portraits are presented to each senior and her family upon graduation.
