With the school year coming to a close this week, Wellesley High track and field athletes took one last final — at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.
A select group of Raider athletes took part, including a mix of senior and junior boys (Thomas Weiss, Ben Matejka, Jamie Mazzola, Sam Gilman) who joined forces to take 8th place in the 4x1mile relay in a time of 17:51.34. Wellesley High freshmen did themselves, proud, too. Abby Comella placed 5th in the freshman 400-meter run with a time of 56.84. Freshman Zach Barry ran the 13th fastest freshman mile in just a shade over 4:35, and doubled up with a freshman 2-mile time of 10.14.23. Allison Sibold ran a 5:41.82 in the freshman mile for girls.
In field events, Julia Jordahl-Henry placed 11th with a high jump of 5-7 in the championship event, while sister Anna Jordahl-Henry finished 14th in the Emerging Elite category with a jump of 5-3. Cassandra Winkelman came in 20th in javelin.
Congrats to the WHS runners for a great year. Best wishes to the graduating seniors who will be running in college next year!
