Wellesley Police Log Week of 08/07/17-08/13/17
Arrests
August 7, 2017 at 7:10 p.m. Officer Joseph was on patrol on Worcester Street near Cedar Street when he observed a Kia van traveling in front of him when he conducted a random query of the vehicle’s registration. The query showed that the registration had expired. He stopped the vehicle and made contact with the operator who provided his license information. The Wellesley Emergency Communications Center advised Officer Joseph that the registered owner had an active warrant issued by Chelsea District Court. The owner was the passenger in the vehicle. She was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and held.
On August 11, 2017 at 6:40 p.m. Officer Carrasquillo was dispatched to the area of Worcester Street near Wellesley Fire Headquarters for an erratic operator in a brown Chevrolet Tahoe that was unable to maintain its lane of travel and had possibly struck the guardrail. Officer Carrasquillo located the vehicle in the area of Worcester Street and Weston Road. He observed the vehicle veer from the left travel lane over the yellow line nearly striking the guardrail. He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator. She indicated that she had taken some prescription medication and an open bottle of vodka was observed on the floor in the back seat of the vehicle. She took and failed 4 field sobriety tests. She was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.
On August 13, 2017 at 12:44 a.m. Officer Gerard was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Worcester Street near Longfellow Road. Upon arrival Officer Gerard observed a Chevrolet sedan that had struck the guardrail and had extensive front end damage. The operator of the vehicle indicated he was trying to avoid another car that was speeding on Worcester Street and he struck the guardrail. A witness indicated The operator drove from Longfellow Road onto the access road and then struck the guardrail. When speaking with the driver, Officer Gerard could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. the driver indicated he had consumed a small amount of alcohol. He failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.
Incidents
On August 7, 2017 at 11:55 a.m. Officer Joseph was dispatched to the Wellesley Recycling and Disposal Facility for a report of an altercation that had occurred. The dispute occurred between two male parties that had known each other for a long period of time. Both indicated that the situation had escalated and it would not happen again.
On August 7, 2017 at 8:02 p.m. Officer Rosenberg spoke with a male party at the police station about an identity theft issue. The reporting party indicated that on July 5, 2017 he received notification that 4 iPhones were sold and shipped to Mesa, Arizona using his identity. He had contacted the company and explained he hadn’t ordered the phones and they advised he would not be responsible for any charges. He later received another notification from the company and they indicated that they would resolve the issue. Officer Rosenberg spoke with the cell phone company to investigate further and they advised that the reporting party needed to file a report with their fraud division for them to provide Officer Rosenberg with any additional information. The incident is under investigation.
On August 8, 2017 at 11:08 a.m. Officer Joseph spoke with a female reporting party who stated she received a collection notice from Zales for purchases made on a credit card that was opened in 2013 with a billing address in New Jersey. She had formerly resided in New Jersey and indicated that it could have been someone she resided with at the time that had opened the account. She did not have any contact information for that person. She had contacted Zales and advised them that she had never opened a credit account with them or purchased items from their store.
On August 9, 2017 at 11:12 p.m. Officer DiCenso was dispatched, along with the Wellesley Fire Department, to a business on Washington Street in the Hills for a report of a fire in a dumpster behind the building. The Wellesley Fire Department extinguished the fire. A contractor working inside one of the businesses indicated he was not sure how the fire had started.
On August 9, 2017 at 8:18 p.m. Officer DiCenso was dispatched to the playground area of Barton Road for a report of a strong odor of fire. Officer DiCenso met with the reporting party who stated that it appeared a group of kids had lit a fire on one of the playground structures and it had damaged the structure. The fire had been extinguished and appeared to have been set using some leaves and brush. The Wellesley Fire Department responded and assured the fire was completely extinguished. Officer DiCenso observed video surveillance of the area and observed several youths come to the playground, gather the materials, set the fire, gather more materials and then all run off in different directions. The incident is under investigation.
On August 10, 2017 at 9:10 a.m. Officer Kane spoke with a male party who was reporting a road rage incident that had occurred about 15 minutes prior, which caused damage to his vehicle. He stated he merged onto Worcester Street at Center Street in Newton and a vehicle started sounding its horn excessively at him. When the vehicles both stopped at the traffic light on Worcester Street at Route 128 the male operator of the vehicle that had sounded its horn pulled up next to him and cursed at him and threw an apple at his vehicle. The vehicle, a Mercury sedan took the ramp onto 128 North and the reporting party followed the vehicle and took a photograph of the vehicle’s registration number using his cellular phone. He stated that when both vehicles stopped in traffic the male operator verbally threatened him. Officer Kane is investigating.
On August 10, 2017 at 9:51 a.m. Officer Kane was dispatched to a business on Worcester Street for a report of a former employee’s spouse who was seen outside of the building on August 9th by two employees. He was reportedly standing outside the building for at least 45 minutes. The reporting party stated that the former employee was terminated in March and had demanded money when she was terminated and made threats to take the company down. The company was aware that the former employee had been searching their website recently and her husband had sent a mass email with a request to join him on Linked In. They did not wish for Officer Kane to speak to the former employee at this time, but wanted the incident documented in case there were any issues in the future.
On August 11, 2017 at 1:55 p.m. Officer Hughes spoke with a female reporting party who stated that in July her child and a neighbor’s child were attending a camp program together and her neighbor’s child was asked to leave the camp as a result of some behavioral issues. She stated that the neighbor made a statement to the camp program director which she felt was a threat towards her and wanted it documented in case any issues arose in the future.
On August 11, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. Officer Carrasquillo spoke with a female reporting party about fraudulent activity. The reporting party stated a company contacted her with an advertising proposal. The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.
On August 12, 2017 at 10:08 a.m. Officer Hughes was dispatched to the Wellesley Square Post Office for a report of a small child being left unattended in a vehicle. Officer Hughes observed that the child was in a child safety seat in the vehicle and the windows were down. The child was three years old. He spoke with the child’s parent who had been in the post office for approximately 10 minutes and advised that it was not appropriate to leave a small child unattended in a motor vehicle and that he would be reporting the incident to the Department of Children and Families.
