The woman who owns a Wellesley house that an Airbnb user rented to host a wild party on Saturday night has come forward to say she was stunned and upset to find out how her Shaw Road property was misused.
NBC Boston, which followed up our original report (See: “Party off: Wellesley neighbors outraged by Airbnb ‘dance club'”), quotes the owner as saying “It never even occurred to me that they would throw a party in a house. I rented the home to what seemed like a very nice, decent, polite, young woman.” The owner says she found out what happened when approached the next day by an angry neighbor who told her everyone on the street was livid, too.
That renter is definitely in for a bad review on Airbnb.

As we reported earlier, neighbors showed up in force at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday to voice their displeasure about the incident, which they said was not only noisy, but jeopardized safety on the street by making it near impossible for safety vehicles to come through if needed. It remains to be seen whether the incident will lead to any changes in town rules regarding short-term rentals.
Meanwhile, now to see if the TV news crew pack will clog the street worse than the partygoers did.
P.S.: We thank the Boston Globe for citing our original report in its story about this situation.
