Wellesley Police Log Week of 09/18/17 to 09/24/17

Arrests

On September 19, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. Officer Dixon was on patrol on Worcester Street near Dearborn Street. He observed a Subaru sedan at the traffic light in front of him with an expired registration. He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator. A query of the operator’s information showed that his license was suspended and there was an active warrant for his arrest issued by Wrentham District Court for motor vehicle related charges. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on bail.

Incidents

On September 18, 2017 at 11:57 a.m. Officer Kane was dispatched to a residence on Laurel Ave for a stolen rabbit trap. The reporting party had borrowed the trap from a neighbor. The trap was taken some time between 7:00 p.m. on September 17th and 9:30 a.m. on September 18th. There are no suspects.

On September 18, 2017 at 2:07 p.m. Officer Kane spoke with a resident of Sheridan Road about fraudulent credit card charges that occurred online for Barnes and Nobles in the amount of $1,300. The reporting party’s spouse had possession of the credit card and believed it may have been compromised in the cafeteria at work, as other employees have noticed fraudulent charges on their credit cards. Officer Kane is investigating.

On September 18, 2017 at 3:51 p.m. Officer Joseph spoke with a male party who had received notification that his personal information may have been compromised during the Equifax security breach. He had contacted TransUnion to set up fraud alerts and they advised him to file a police report. At this time, he has not suffered any financial loss and has not noticed any suspicious transactions on his account or other types of fraudulent activity.

On September 19, 2017 at 11:05 a.m. Officer Keenan responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. A witness reported that the pedestrian walked out into traffic suddenly between vehicles and not in the nearby crosswalk. The witness also stated it did not appear that the pedestrian was struck by the motor vehicle, but fell to the ground. The driver of the vehicle stated he observed the pedestrian step out into traffic and stopped his vehicle and did not believe he struck the pedestrian. Officer Keenan spoke with the pedestrian who stated that she was struck by the front of the vehicle on her left side. Officer Keenan spoke with area businesses to determine if there was video available and there was not.

On September 20, 2017 at 8:40 p.m. Officer DiCenso spoke with a female party about an internet scam. The female party stated that she met a man on Match.com who indicated he was a combat physician for the United Nations and he travels to foreign countries frequently to render aid. In August he indicated he had to travel to Syria for two weeks and then she began receiving phone calls from him where there was a lot of sirens and shouting. She stated the male party indicated to her that she could write a letter to the United Nations detailing why he should be granted leave which would help him return home sooner. She stated she followed his directions and was contacted by another male party who indicated she needed to send $5,670.30 which would pay for the male party’s airfare, which she did. She indicated after that her communication with the male party was less frequent and he stated he was working long hours. Shortly after the first request for money there was a second request for $12,000 to pay for medical exams so the male party could leave Syria. The reporting party suspected this was a scam and stopped communication with the male party but continues to receive phone calls and voicemail messages. Officer DiCenso is investigating.

On September 21, 2017 at 12:23 p.m. Officer Cunningham spoke with an employee from a business on Central Street who stated a female party had been in the store on September 19th and September 20th and they suspected that she had stolen some jewelry from the store. She returned to the store on September 21st at which point the employee began a conversation with her and obtained her email address to notify her of upcoming sales. She stated that she believed she again stole merchandise from the store and a review of the video footage after she left showed that she tried on some rings and placed them in her pocket and left the store. The email address provided was a student email address from Babson College. Officer Cunningham contacted the Babson College Police Department and they were able to identify the student. The incident is under investigation.

On September 21, 2017 at 9:14 p.m. Officer Dennehy spoke with a male reporting part from High Meadow Circle who stated that while he was in the residence a door opened and he wished for the police to check the residence with him to ensure there was nobody in the residence. The residence was checked and all appeared to be in order. There was damage to the door which did not appear to be new and it was unknown when the damage occurred. It was very windy on that evening and Officer Dennehy advised the resident that the door could have possibly blown open.

On September 23, 2017 at 3:51 p.m. Officer Hughes spoke to a resident on Washington Street about some issues with a neighbor. The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.

On September 23, 2017 at 9:05 p.m. Officer DiCenso spoke with a female party from Longfellow Road who stated on September 22nd and September 23rd she noticed that her lawn was wet and when she checked the irrigation system control box the setting had been changed. She stated on the 22nd she changed it back to its normal setting and on the 23rd it had been changed again. She then locked the control box and notified the police department. She does not know who would have tampered with the box. She wanted the incident documented in case there are further issues.

On September 24, 2017 at 3:24 p.m. Officer Lindelof was dispatched to the Hills area of Washington Street for a dispute between a male and female party about a vehicle not stopping for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The report is incomplete and no further details are available at this time.

On September 24, 2017 at 9:46 p.m. Officer Griffin spoke with a male party at the police station about a road rage incident that occurred about fifteen minutes prior on Seaver Street. The reporting party indicated that while driving on Seaver Street a dark SUV was stopped in the travel lane near the back of the high school and as his vehicle approached the SUV it accelerated at a high rate of speed and then stopped again at the intersection of Seaver Street and Wellesley Ave and turned on its hazard lights. The reporting party stated after a few moments he called out the window of his vehicle to the other operator that he could not get past him at which point the male operator exited the vehicle and angrily began to approach his vehicle, but a female passenger got out and was able to get him back into the car. The reporting party stated the male then exited the vehicle a second time with a beverage bottle in his hand and began coming towards his vehicle so he backed up at which point the male threw the bottle at the vehicle and cracked the windshield. The male then got back in the vehicle and left the area. The reporting party provided a vehicle registration number which comes back to a leasing company. Officer Griffin is investigating.
