Of course Wellesley High Coach Magpiong & cycling crew made it all the way across the U.S.

Was there ever a doubt in anyone’s mind that Wellesley High School girls’ basketball coach Glen Magpiong, dad Earl and friend Tucker Swan would complete their cross-country cycling route to help raise funds and awareness for ALS and educating the incarcerated?

The three cyclists, who had their Wellesley sendoff on Aug. 1, made it all the way to Santa Monica in 61 days, some 3,500+ miles after they left from Charlestown, Mass. Strong headwinds, bursitis and other obstacles were overcome. They pumped their legs through New York, Ohio, Texas, New Mexico and more (including Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas in one hour span). They raised thousands for their chosen causes, and were helped by many family members and new and old friends along the way, some who shared in the cycling, others who supplied sustenance and support.

Glen Magpiong wrote in his final blog post about the excursion: “Our arrival at the Pier was accompanied by a ‘finish line’, the cheers and fotos of friends and relatives, a shake for Tucker, and the ceremonial dipping of front tires in the Pacific Ocean.”

You can relive their adventure via the Northern Tier and Route 66 Cross Country “Tour 2 Cure” blog.
